It’s been 9 days now… And slowly, I’m getting the hang of it – again! Bit crazy really, you would have thought that I’d be experienced – but let me tell you something, this Andre, is a complete new ball-game!!!
Let’s start from the beginning…
With Chloe ill, and myself having more regular painful contractions – DnA knew we were gonna be in for a busy time! Wed morning/afternoon, I had started to experience more painful contractions – which on my pain scale was a number 4! We saw the midwife, only to be told that it doesn’t appear to be painful enough and that I was only 3 cm dilated, so was sent home! Later on in the day, as the pain increased, I called the midwife and was told that I can’t be in labour as I was still too calm!! I was like ‘what’?!?!?!? Ever thought that I was a calm person?!?!? This was 4pm…
7pm-ish: We were at the emergency doctors at the hospital for Chloe
8pm-ish: Waters break – but still unable to go in – as was told I was still too calm and not in estalished labour!
10pm-ish: Lying in bed and the pain was getting more intense… Told Huppy that I need to go in – at least for an examination or pain relief! I would say pain scale of 5!?!?! Huppy takes charge and calls the midwife unit – so that they don’t have to hear my calm voice and reject me again!!!
Midwife tells us to go in to be examined but states that if I’m not in active labour, I will be sent home!! I was like ‘yeah, whatever!’
I arrive at the unit at 10:30pm and the midwife tells me to pace around the room to make my contractions more stronger!! I tell you what, I should have just faked screamed and pretended I was in agony – I’m sure they would have taken me more seriously!! Anways, I was pacing around this room like an animal and the pain was getting worse…. Atleast she examined – 5cm dilated… Yip, I was in labour!!!
In the delivery suite, I was given the not so helpful gas and air, whilst huppy re-parked his car (as he had parked illegally) (FROM ALLAN-: I did not parked illegally, we were told its ok to park by the 20 mins waiting site if it was urgent, plus my wife was in pain, I can’t park 500 metres away) and the midwife went to make herself a cuppa!!! So alone in this room, the contractions are getting more intense… and the gas and air didn’t seem to be that effective! The midwife returns and notices that things are progressing more quickly than anticipated and comments ‘I hope your husband won’t be too long!!’
Huppy soon returns… and to cut the story short – this delivery was by far worse than Chloes!!! The pain was seriously unbearable and although I had requested for pethidine – I was too late.. So here’s the breakdown of the times!!! (As documented from my maternity notes):
First stage of labour/active labour (i.e. when I was examined to be 5cm!): 1hr 45min
Second stage (i.e. when I was 10cm and baby is born): 10mins
Third stage (begins right after the birth of your baby and ends with the separation and subsequent delivery of the placenta): 5mins

So the whole process was very quick! But intense!

Life with Chloe and Andre are getting more smooth – with Chloe initially wanting more attention, and Andre not feeding so well… But things are settling down now… My family and huppy have been great supports and soon, there’ll be no stopping the DACA group!! (Daze, Allan, Chloe, Andre)!
Will try to keep you all posted on the happenings…
