Oh, don’t get me wrong, I love my Huppy to bits!!! And I don’t doubt that he is ill… And I’m not complaining! But when he told me 3 days ago that he didn’t feel so well - It just made me reminisce, back to UK pharmacy days!!!
My huppy only told me he had a fever and achy bones…. and my instinct was “Man-flu”!!!! Luckily he wasn’t a typical “Man-flu guy!!!”
Man-flu is basically a severe cold, mistakenly self-diagnosed as the flu, particularly by a man…. However, once it takes hold in its victim — usually the male species as the name suggests — it is completely debilitating and only complete bed rest and molly-coddling by the nearest and dearest wifey/female can treat it!! Sound familiar?!?!?
I suggested that Huppy see a doc but he declined…. So 2 days complete bed rest, TLC, cold-compresses on the forehead, paracetamol, fluids, coke and salt, sure did the trick…. He is now up and full energy!!! Wahay!!!!
Just some tips that I remembered from my girlies back in Uk!!!
Do:
Say: “Poor you. You’re very brave.”
Make a doc’s appointment for him if he’s constantly complaining of illness or has a real anxiety, then ofcos go with him for moral support!
Give him what he wants! Well, meaning a bit of mothering - if he’s got man-flu! Make him a hot drink, stroke his clammy brow and plump his pillows - before making a speedy exit to do something more exciting!!! Hehe
Don’t
Say: “Pull yourself together. I’ve already got three children to look after.”
Suggest he trawl the internet if his symptoms really concern him. If he is already worried that his headache is something more sinister, after a few minutes of web-searching he’ll be absolutely convinced.
Say: “You’ve probably got what I had the other day – you’ll feel better tomorrow.” You can bet he won’t!! Men love to do things bigger and better!!!
