The Riau Islands has got a rare treasure found off the coast of Pulau Tunjuk. It’s called The Waterlodge.

Over the weekend we had a short holiday over at this nice and cosy place. There are some pictures which you can see at my facebook album.

Leave a comment or two if you are thinking of going for a getaway trip to a traditional kelong at Riau Islands. I can help you get in touch with the hosts.

Not Advised….

Saturday, October 25, 2008 by Daisy in Daisy's Thoughts, General Blog Posts

“Not advised”, “Not recommended”…. I think I have heard words like these so many times since I have been pregnant!

Allan has left with his buddies and gfs to the The Water Lodge in Indonesia for the long public weekend… Whilst, me - I am at home!! Originally, I was going too until they (the Water Lodge) advised that it wasn’t suitable for a pregnant lady to attend and they didn’t want to take any responsibility should anything happen… Ummm… I suppose, it’s to cover their backsides? I could have put their advice to one side and been a rebel and still went for it… But, I suppose I should be responsible! What if something were to happen, the speedy access to the nearest hospital is not so convenient and near, not to mention the transportation to the Water Lodge is not really ideal for me…

But I feel so rebellious - maybe I’ll surprise them and turn up there!! I keep looking at their website and thinking to myself - how bad can it be?!?!?! It just looks so fun… I suppose - it’s not the actual location - it’s the company! But don’t worry, even if I want to - Mama would make sure I stay put!!!

So here I am, being a good mother-to-be and taking it easy at home!!! Missing Huppy ofcos - cos he can go and I can not!!! It’s not like he’s gonna be away for ages - only 3 days and 2 nights!! I suppose you could say, when I go back to UK or take my holidays - it’s MUCH longer than that (mine can last from 10 days to a few months!!!) But the point is that it’s different when YOU get to go somewhere and you leave your loved ones behind!!! When you’re the one left behind - the feeling is not so great - if you get my drift!!! The excitement of going somewhere, the hustle and bustle, the new environment, the being with frens just overshadows the so-called leaving blues…. But anyways, told him to have fun and enjoy himself (cos I know I would, even though deep down I would miss him!!!)

So, what are my plans? Spend some quality time with Mama aka mother in law… Enjoy my own time and do my own things, meet frens and do a little Christmas shopping!… This year, I’m very late - usually I’m all done by Nov!!! hehe

The Ritz-Carlton Experience Coming Soon & Bare Hands!!!

Monday, October 20, 2008 by Daisy in General Blog Posts

Tonight, DnA and MnD went to a “talk” in Ngee Ann City in town… It was an invited event cos MnD are members and they invited us!!! Thanks guys!

It was to hear them promote this Marriott Vacation Club package…. But as long as you attended - whether you sign up or not - you get a complimentary 2 days and 1 night stay at the 6 star Ritz-Carlton hotel and Japanese dinner buffet… So why not!!!

I always wanted to stay at this hotel and now that it’s complimentary, it’s gonna be fab!!! Just so fab!!!! So, when we stay there - I’ll tell you all about it!!! ;)

The above was the happy thing that happened…. But, towards the evening, I felt a bit sad! Although I was an airconned environment practically all day, my fingers have been swelling…. So bad, that my wedding ring was dented in my skin and I had a bit of an issue trying to remove my rings at the end of the night!!! My ankles have been swelling a little, but not so much…. I’ve been trying to wear my trendy compression hosiery as much as possible - but it’s so hot here! But water retention is starting to kick in now… It sort of wears you down and although I may not look like what I’m gonna describe to you - I feel like a big bloated blob!! My hands, feet, face/eyes, belly feel really blubbery and heavy!!! I suppose what doesn’t help is the fact that your digestive system becomes sluggish and constipation properly kicks in…. Exercise, fibre, fresh fruit and veg, constipation remedies are no longer as effective as they once were….

Oh well, I suppose it’s the journey of being preggers…. Looking on the brighter side of things - at least we’ll have a mini DnA!!!

The Dim Sum Closest To HK So Far!!!

Sunday, October 19, 2008 by Daisy in Daisy's Thoughts, General Blog Posts, Really Nice Food

Today, DnA and some relatives decided to for lunch and try out this new Dim Sum place in Novena Square 2, called Old Hong Kong Kitchen. It was highly recommended by one of Allan’s work colleagues - whom used to live in HK… Apparently, the cooking style was similar to that found in HK! Really?!??! This I must try!

For those whom know me well - my favourites are sushi… and dim sum!!! It’s a shame cos I’m preggers that I can’t have sushi at the moment cos there are many fab restaurants here…. However, as for traditional dim sum - until now, I was yet to find a good dim sum place…. So when I tried this place and although not 100% HK style - some dishes were close enough!!! Anyways, it’s the best I’ve tried so far in Singapore! Beats “Yum Cha Restaurant” any day!!! (People say this restaurant was fab - but when DnA tried it, no way hosay!!!

Some of my favs:
-The cheung fun was quite good cos the flour roll was smooth, thin and glides in your mouth…. I love it when that happens!
-The egg tart was traditionally like HK style (flaky pastry and soft egg centre - note, not the Portuguese type) - but the best I’ve tried so far is at Bugis street stall!!!
-Steamed sponge cake - I don’t normally eat this - but it was rather nice!
-Steamed chicken claw with black bean sauce - worth trying
-Rose tea - nice nice!!!

Summary:
Overall, a very pleasant experience cos it’s the closest to HK dim sum so far… Will definitely go again.. Maybe next time, try their hor fun/noodle dishes or try a different outlet?

SnK Video Productions!!!

Sis recently produced these music videos…. Quite funny!!!

Gotta make more!!! Gotta make more!!!

Oh, don’t get me wrong, I love my Huppy to bits!!! And I don’t doubt that he is ill… And I’m not complaining! But when he told me 3 days ago that he didn’t feel so well - It just made me reminisce, back to UK pharmacy days!!!

My huppy only told me he had a fever and achy bones…. and my instinct was “Man-flu”!!!! Luckily he wasn’t a typical “Man-flu guy!!!”

Man-flu is basically a severe cold, mistakenly self-diagnosed as the flu, particularly by a man…. However, once it takes hold in its victim — usually the male species as the name suggests — it is completely debilitating and only complete bed rest and molly-coddling by the nearest and dearest wifey/female can treat it!! Sound familiar?!?!?

I suggested that Huppy see a doc but he declined…. So 2 days complete bed rest, TLC, cold-compresses on the forehead, paracetamol, fluids, coke and salt, sure did the trick…. He is now up and full energy!!! Wahay!!!!

Just some tips that I remembered from my girlies back in Uk!!!

Do:
Say: “Poor you. You’re very brave.”

Make a doc’s appointment for him if he’s constantly complaining of illness or has a real anxiety, then ofcos go with him for moral support!

Give him what he wants! Well, meaning a bit of mothering - if he’s got man-flu! Make him a hot drink, stroke his clammy brow and plump his pillows - before making a speedy exit to do something more exciting!!! Hehe

Don’t
Say: “Pull yourself together. I’ve already got three children to look after.”

Suggest he trawl the internet if his symptoms really concern him. If he is already worried that his headache is something more sinister, after a few minutes of web-searching he’ll be absolutely convinced.

Say: “You’ve probably got what I had the other day – you’ll feel better tomorrow.” You can bet he won’t!! Men love to do things bigger and better!!! ;)

Addicted To You!

Sunday, October 12, 2008 by Daisy in General Blog Posts

I blame you for doing this to me! Why are you staring at me? Why did you appear? I haven’t seen or come across you for ages, but now you’re back in my life!… Why are you just sooooo addictive?!

For those who think Huppy’s got some competition - Oh never!!! Don’t even think about it!!! No such thing…

However, currently I am sort of addicted to Mr Pringles!!! So far up until yesterday, I’ve been able to walk past it, in the supermarket… But Huppy thought it would be nice to buy it as snacks for the boys.. I mean, every Saturday night is the boy’s Risk gathering (Yip, this boring game is still going strong! However, recently, a more interesting game called Bang has appeared!) and generally there would be snacks and soft drinks available. Last night I started off really good and abstained when I was offered Mr P… But then as the night progressed I gave in to my first Mr P… And the addiction started….!!! Oh no!!!

I know I know - full of MSG… I wish I could be so blasé about it…. and not give a care… but I’ve limited myself to just a handful of Mr P’s so far!!! I suppose, that’s why it’s even harder to forget about it!!! Also, not forgetting the fact that we have many tubes of Mr P eyeing me up in the kitchen is totally not appropriate…. I need to get over you Mr P and replace you ASAP!!!

Me and All My Mr P's!!!!

DigiBook By DigiLab

The doorbell rung… It’s arrived!!! The package I’ve been waiting for has finally arrived! It’s only been 2 days mind since I sent off for the final completed product!!! Regardless, I’ve been looking forward to receiving my personally designed DigiBook!

It was a gift off a friend. DnA have actually had it for ages and only recently did I find time to use it! Well, it’s like a gift card thing, whereby, you go onto the net to their website and download their software. You then download your fav pics and design your own layout for your photo album… You then send the completed thing via the net to the respective place and they get it developed and bound - all nice and glossy!!!

What’s so fab is that you can pick the no. of pages you want - up to a whopping 100 pages! The layout and style of the photo album can be picked, it’s such a good glossy smooth finish and the type of paper and ink used wont allow the pics to fade in years to come.

I suppose it’s more special to me because DnA’s UK & Singa wedding albums are in UK… There’s 5 of them, all specially hand-made and designed by my little sis! The point is that it’s far too heavy to be traipsing it around the world! So this DigiBook was a good idea to put some of the highlights of our special journey.. To just pick it up and reminisce… Also, people here haven’t seen our wedding pics - so it’ll be nice to show them the whole summary!!!

I managed to put highlights of our UK wedding, Singapore wedding, Singapore wedding photoshoot and honeymoon pics all in this DigiBook!!! I love looking at pics - and I believe looking at pics on the laptop/computer is just not the same as looking at your memories via an album…. It’s much more special…. The DigiBook we have is the SQDigiBook casebound - for me, lovin’ it!

My Own DigiBook!!!

It’s 3:30am in the morning, the streets are quiet and the whole house is sleeping - except me… Normally, I would be in deep sleep at this time, currently I am awake and there are no signs of tiredness!

The first time this happened was the morning before - where I woke up at 4am feeling extremely hungry. I tried to ignore it, but just couldn’t so I got up and buttered myself some bread to eat, accompanied with a glass of milk. After that, I felt much better! About 45 mins later - I was back in my bed fast asleep.

At the moment, I’ve had my bread and milk - but just don’t feel tired…. So I am here writing this… In the back of my mind, I am thinking - ” I really should try and sleep cos it will totally put my body clock off track for the day!” It’s currently 4:30am…

Not too sure why I am hungry cos I try to eat a small snack just before bedtime to prevent me from having to get up in the early hours of the morning. I mean, getting up many times to goto urinate in the early hours of the morning is bad enough.. and now a new addition of needing to eat! Oh boy, welcome sleep deprivation and Chloe isn’t even out yet!!! Hopefully, this is just a small clitch in the system and all will be fine in the days to come! Better go rest now to catch up on my beauty sleep… Nite.
