Lights, Camera, Action!!!

Tuesday, July 29, 2008 by Daisy in General Blog Posts

A few days ago, DnA were asked by Ian whether we could help in a small film production! Not as the film crew, but actually feature in the film!!! Yeah, I knew it - the looks, the talent - good choices!!! :p

It’s the 8 minutes youth film competition, which, if the film wins - they could receive S$4k…. The money is to help this film production group get some funding.

I had no lines but had to act in some emotional scenes… pretty hard cos generally I’m a happy person - so it was hard to act in despair, to make my lips trembele and feel sad, cold and lonely!!! It’s also very scary cos the lights and camera are right in my face… Oh no… all my imperfections on my face are now visible and caught on camera!!!

Huppy had one line and he loved it!!!! Rehearsing that one line until it was his shot!!! Even now, after the event, now and again he still says the same lines!!!

When the film is aired - I’ll show you guys…. Dont really know what to expect…. Future career in acting? Ummmm…. as for me, I’ll give it a miss… As for Huppy - he really thinks he could make it big in the entertainment world… Good luck babes!!! :)

Rice Table - Indonesian Food

Sunday, July 27, 2008 by Daisy in General Blog Posts

To celebrate Huppy’s bday, some of the relatives of his Mum’s side organised a lunch buffet gathering at the Rice Table.

I particularly liked the Ikan Goreng (which is, in lay-man’s terms, fried fish in sweet and sour sauce) - we had 4 servings of this dish!!!

The food was nice - but generally too spicy for me though!!!
Here’s the list of what we ate:
-Soto Ayam (Indonesian chicken soup)
-Sate Ayam (Chicken sate)
-Ikan Goreng (Fried fish in sweet and sour sauce) ————–Fav!!!
-Tahu Telor (Tofu omlette) —————Nice!!!
-Rudjak Manis (Indonesian fruit salad)
-Sambal Udang (Prawns in spicy coconut sauce)
-Sayur Lodeh (Vegetables stewed in coconut gravy)
-Achar Ketimun (Pickled cucmber)
-Otak (Grilled fishcake)
-Kangkong Belachan (Spicy fried Kangkong)
-Ayam Kalio (Spicy curry chicken)——fab first taste until the spicyness hit the back of the throat!!

It’s been awhile!

Saturday, July 26, 2008 by Daisy in General Blog Posts

It’s been awhile since I last recorded our happenings… We’ve been really busy as of late… Actually, correction - really busy and tired!!! Anyways, as things start to wind down, I try to recall what exactly DnA have been up to!

1) Bean = beansprout? experiment:
After obtaining our red, green, yellow and black beans, DnA did four experiments using the same no. of beans for each and observed them every day for 1 week. The experiments were as follows:
a) Beans placed on damp cotton wool with no light
b) Beans placed on damp cottom wool with light
c) Beans immersed fully in water with light
d) Beans partially immersed in water with light

Results:
a) Beans placed on damp cotton wool with no light—-
-Second best test conditions
-Yellow beans germinated within 1 day with long growth
-Green beans germinated within 3 days but with very small growth
-Black beans germinated within 4 days but shrivelled up and died!
-Red beans - no growth
b) Beans placed on damp cottom wool with light—-
-Third best conditions!
-Germination of beans same as (a)
c) Beans immersed fully in water with light—-
-No germination
d) Beans partially immersed in water with light—-
-Best test conditions!
-Yellow beans germinated with the longest growth compared to the other test conditions
-Germination of beans same as (a)

Summary of results:
-Well, nothing to conclude except all of them germinate except the red bean! Whether they germinate into beansprouts - who knows!!! Waste of time? Ummm… I think so!

MagicBox

Sunday, July 13, 2008 by Daisy in General Blog Posts

Today, DnA and Mama met up with Aunt Kat for some Prawn mee…. Apparently there was a super-duper tasty shop on Onan Road.. But when we finally got there - it was non existent!!! It had supposedly closed down about a year ago - Ummmm, obviously couldn’t have been that tasty then!?!?!?

So it was substitute time…. Had a few places in mind but ended up at Jalan Sultan Prawn Mee @ Geylang Lorong 1. I personally don’t eat prawn mee - but according to the rest of them, it was quite good.

After that, it was time to meet up with Mags, Dan & co. for our trip to the Esplande Theatre to watch MagicBox, where Singapore’s resident illusionists, Lawrence and Priscilla Khong, presented a show with tricks and magic. They wore eye-catching costumes and performed against spectacular sets, whilst incorporating a heartwarming tale of love and family values in a fusion of magical artistry, theatre and orchestral music. Overall an entertaining and very different day!

I Didn’t Know That!!! It’s Experimento Time!

Saturday, July 12, 2008 by Daisy in General Blog Posts

Whilst eating beansprounts one day, a random statement came up…. I so didn’t know this… Did you know this?

Beansprouts come from green beans aka “look dow” - literally translated in Cantonese, aka Mung beans! When I heard this statement - I was like, ‘You’re telling me that beansprouts are from the same green beans in the green bean soups? Also, I didn’t know that if you removed the green skins, these green beans are light yellow in colour!

So whilst finding out more info: I found out that beansprouts are germinated by leaving them watered with 4 hours of daytime light and spending the rest of the day in the dark, over the period of a week.

So, I asked the following qns…. So, if green beans germinate into beansprouts, what do red (azuki)beans give? How about black beans? Yellow beans? No one could answer!

So, let’s do an experiment! Let’s buy some green beans, red (azuki) beans, black beans, and yellow beans… and let’s try and grow something!!! Hey, maybe they all give some type of beansprout?!?!? I am so confused now!!!

I’ve only ever eaten a black chicken once in my life… Today was the 2nd time….
Both times in singapore.
Both times made by Mama.
Both times in the form of a ginseng, red dates herbal soup.

The first time, no questions came into my mind, even though, I never knew of its existence! (Or maybe I did, but never thought much of it).
The second time, alot of questions came into my mind, even though I’ve eaten one before!

During dinner - random qns kept spilling out of my mouth…. Both my Huppy and Mama looked at me weird but still answered to the best that they could! With qns that couldn’t be answered, the result was a giggle with a shrug or ‘I don’t know’. I think at the end of the ‘machine gun’ questioning session - they were relieved! But I was just so intrigued by this black chicken!!!

“Is the meat of this black chicken really black or is it dyed with e.g soya sauce?”
“Is there any difference in a black chicken’s lifestyle compared to a white one?”
“What does a black chicken look like from the outside?”
“So would you be able to tell the difference between a black meat chicken and a white meat chicken from the outside?”

The bones of the chicken were a darkish grey colour… so this led onto more qns:
“So is the blood of the black chicken still red or black?”———————Realised what a stupid qn, once it came out of my mouth! I think the ‘black’ has got to my logic!
“How would you be able to tell if the black chicken is cooked properly (without cooking it until it was dry!) cos there’s no pink tinge!?”

Well, I thought dinner was entertaining…. Why not bring on some more interesting, colourful foods!? Don’t you just love the feeling of being intrigued?!?!? Cos I do!

A Very Black Chicken!
