March 2008

I should be in Ho Chi Minh City right now but due to some carelessness (which my wife will update you on later) we have left the rest of our family and came home to rest. And as a person who believes in the proverb of “Blessing in disguise” (mandarin proverb – Sai Wong Shi Ma, Yan Zhi Fei Fu) I know that there must be some good reason why this is happening.

Whilst watching Bear Grylls‘s Man vs Wild, Daisy was asking me to teach her how to be able to survive if she is ever stranded without me in various places. So there I was sharing with her some of my minimal survival skills that I have learnt back in Hendon. And it was then, that I thought it would be fun if I can show her a few of our training areas, of how we move in the day and night, how we bash into vegetation and navigate out of the dense woods.

So I have decided to ask if fellow adventurous mates are interested and willing to commit the time and effort to do some such of navigation hike in either mainland Singapore or Pulau Ubin. Treat this as an educational and going down memory lane kind of tour on a Saturday-Sunday weekend.

Nothing is confirmed as in time-duration, venue etc. But i do have some suggestions.

i) time frame – 10-16hrs Saturday afternoon-Sunday early morning. Might have quite a bit of walking, and people who freaks when they see insects are not advisable to join in, as we might be sitting with them around.
ii) venue – some of the mandai area, not so dense woods.
iii) we will sort of be able to start a fire and cook food or coffee, chit chat in a very close to nature way (* I really miss that a lot!!! Yewsun and Mae please let’s make the St John Fishing trip happpen!!! ) etc…

Any constructive suggestions or comments are welcome…

I am hoping some mates would volunteer!!! Hence I am making a list below. (i will update it as we move along)

Updated: We will have this event in the late June-August period
People interested and willing to commit!

i) DnA (Daisy and Allan)
ii) Cherie (my god sis) and Derrick
iii) Jason (definitely in depending on schedule)
iv) Yewsun (will consider if time is right)
v) Ling Peh Ho (will consider)
vi)
vii)
viii)
ix)
x)

ps: we will do it when Mas Selamat is caught or we can go to Pulau Ubin to do it. Flexible.

Have a look at our previous achievements!!
The Macritchie Longggg Walk, and the photos to prove it.

Recently, DnA went back to do the HSBC Tree Top Walk.

Recently, many people close to me have been suffering with their confidence, worrying too much about what others say and how others feel or just simply panicking…

Ofcos, some of these are good things, like thinking of others – but my motto is think and look after yourself before you can think and look after others…. Here is something I came across a while ago and want to share:

When you were born,
You cried and everyone smiled.
Live your life, so that when you die
Everyone cries and you’re the only one smiling

Raffles Bar & Billiard Room International Buffet

Friday, March 14, 2008 by in General Blog Posts, Really Nice Food

Today, we met up with the cousin crew to have our “Stuff your face or eat as much good food as you can” session!

Location: Raffles Bar & Billiard Room
Type of food served: International Buffet with Seafood
Ambience and setting: Fab
Overall rating: 7/10 (Well, my rating that is!)

The service wasn’t all that because we had to keep prompting them and it’s funny how the sashimi chef just “dumped” the sashimi on your plate!.. I thought it was an accident – but each time I went back, it happened! Oops…. But some were really friendly (I like staff who smile at you ;) compared to those grumpy ones!!) The seafood selection was quite good, (the salmon sashimi and oysters etc) but the rest of the foods wasn’t all that enticing…. Not particularly fussed on the BBQ section… However, the leek and potato mash was really yummy! And my favourite section – the dessert section, was not that nicely presented nor tasty… However, I loved the setting… Established in 1896, the Bar & Billiard Room houses two original billiard tables from the turn of the century! And they served food on them – what a waste!!!
Nice Food and Nice Company....
Thanks to Juliet’s discount – the price was good.. without the discount, I think it wouldn’t have been worth it… But I suppose it’s an experience…. I still prefer the Fullerton for the food, but I prefer Raffles for the setting….
Cheers

After dinner, we went back to Juliet’s place for a session of Mah Jong…. Oh my – you should have seen the MJ set…. Ok excuse me for being a bit of a sharon at the mo – but like they say, it was “LUSH!” I love the sparkly gold!!!! So glam!!!

Ell er Vee Mah Jong Set.... Wow er Wee!!!

Exactly how long can a person live without food?

That question is always on my mind when it comes to human endurance. I suppose that is very much determined by his will power and his reason to live with eating food.

Yeah Baby, Shake It Like U Mean It!

Just saw Step Up 2 in the cinema… the story itself wasn’t all that.. But oh my, if you like this type of thing – the grooves and the mooves and the beat was absolutely fabatastic!!!

I so wish I could move like that…!!!

Chill Out Day

Thursday, March 6, 2008 by in General Blog Posts

Today is the day before Pri’s departure… Didn’t do anything too strenuous…

Chilled out with a spa treatment, a walk in Bishan Park and tried the reflexology stones!!! Pain!!!

Then went to have some chinese foot reflexology, back and neck massage done… More pain!!!!

Did last minute shopping and that was really it!

Had fun with Pri and managed to see SO MANY NEW sights! It was fun being a tourist with Pri and getting to places with just a map, public transport and our english accent, trying to order food at hawker centres etc!
