Lo Hei Or Yu Sheng!

Sunday, January 27, 2008 by in Daisy's Thoughts, General Blog Posts, Really Nice Food

Today, we went for “Lo Hei” (Cantonese 撈起 or 捞起) or Yu Sheng!! Here in Singa, it’s a very popular appetiser dish during the CNY period… representing good luck…

Yu means “fish” but enunciated appropriately, it also means “abundance”; and sheng means literally “raw” but enunciated appropriately, it means “life”. So yu sheng implies “abundance of wealth and long life”! In Cantonese it is known as lo sheng with lo also meaning “tossing up good fortune”. The tossing action is called lo hei, which means to “rise” (hei). Families and frens would gather round the table and when ready – toss the shredded ingredients into the air with chopsticks whilst saying “good luck” wishes… Really fun!

Typical ingredients include: fresh salmon, daikon (white radish), carrot, red pepper (capsicum), ginger, daun limau nipis (leaves from lime tree), Chinese parsley, chopped peanuts, toasted sesame seeds, Chinese shrimp crackers (or fried dried shrimp), five spice powder and the dressing made primarily from plum sauce.

What a mess!!!

Southern Gospel Music Lyrics

Friday, January 25, 2008 by in General Blog Posts

Southern gospel music lyrics? Yeah, I repeat Southern gospel music lyrics! You’re probably thinking – where did that come from?!?!? Well, here’s what happened!

Today, whilst out in town, Huppy and I heard a group of people singing in the distant… It was quite loud, bearing in mind we were quite far from the singers! Whilst strolling down the street, this particular song – esp. the chorus was very catchy and I realised that I was starting to hum it in my head as we continued to walk! As we walked past the group of singers – we realised that they were singing southern gospel music. Of course, I wouldn’t have had a clue! They were there trying to promote their new southern gospel music CD… and that’s why I knew!

Throughout the day – I just couldn’t get this chorus out of my head… I didn’t really know who sang it, nor did I know the title.. All I knew was that it is southern gospel music and some lyrics… so I decided to search for “Southern Gospel Music Lyrics”…. After reading more about Southern gospel music – I realised why I found the songs catchy…

Southern gospel music, rhythm & blues were all very deeply rooted in the Sanctified Church. However, blues and R&B slowly began to be separated from the religion and became world famous – and even eventually leading to rock and roll! I love R&B, and because southern gospel music undeniably influences R&B… I suppose that is why I found these southern gospel music catchy!

Riding With The Enemy!

Today, I never thought I would EVER be in this situation nor did I EVER want to be in this position… Again! A perfectly pleasant journey until I saw him. Why did he have to join us for the ride… I hate him, I detest him….

Sitting there in the car I was uncomfortable, stressed, violently shaking, uncertain, silent and ready to fight if I was provoked…

Let me briefly explain!

I looked up and in the corner of my eye – I saw something crawl… Just above my Huppy’s head…. Brown shiny body, longish thin legs, slowly moving towards the car sun visor… Without any major movements, I slowly reached to turn down the music volume and slowly and gently whispered to my Huppy to warn him of the enemy!

With my eye on it constantly, the enemy carried on walking… The worst thing is that we could not stop the car… we were on the motorway… And NO WAY was I ever going to touch my enemy…. or get near it! It was the longest journey ever… with my eyes fixed on the target and my hand bag in my hands – I was ready to fight if it attacked!

Huppy although hating the enemy too… was more concerned about my actions if I was attacked! But I could not think… My reactions would be to hit it with my hand bag if it ever landed on me, or swipe it with my hand bag if it ever flew towards me… along with a scream!!! Under these circumstances and pressures – how could I think properly….!?

Thank goodness the enemy was good and it remained under the sun visor…. We reached our destination…. I got out of the car and Huppy confronted the enemy…. Oh no – where is it? No where to be seen…. Darn….. Looks like another ride with the enemy in our next journey :(

My enemy = The cockroach!

Cute Bride & Groom Bears

My new loves…. currently sitting on our bedroom shelf… So small but yet so adorable…

These were favours from a friend’s wedding…. So cute… I just so love weddings! Reminds me of ours :)

The happy couple!

Since touching down in Singa – life here has been fun…

Huppy met me at the airport with a fantastic surprise for my b’day… Originally he told me we were gonna go camping – but it was raining so he had to change his plans!!!

We drove into the central and he was still playing the guessing game…. but it was a stay at the Marriot hotel in Scotts road with an executive room and access to the executive lounge, with complimentary dinner and breakfast! (Thanks to the great gift and upgrade from M&D and Jasmine respectively).

The stay was fantastic and they even organised a b’day cake for me and strawberries dipped in chocolate – yummy!…. I had a great pair of diamond earrings from Hupps too…

My Bday Cake!

We checked out on Sunday to join family for lunch… And Allan’s aunt treated us! Feel so privaledged that so many people are so good to me…. then went home to have food cooked by mama and watched Alien Vs Predator on tv….

Today – Monday, we woke up rather late…. chilled out at home, then ate out for lunch… Then decided to catch part 2 of Alien Vs Predator at the cinema… After that it was home time to do some drilling!

Yay – the room is finally complete and individualised! I must say – I love it… And thanks to my sister Ansy who did all the picture work for me in UK….

Perfect Pics!

An Update Of DnA

Thursday, January 3, 2008 by in Allan's Thoughts, General Blog Posts

Hi guys, Happy New Year, it has been a while since we update on our lives. So i thought i use this chance to update a little bit on DnA.

Everyone should know that Daze is now in UK, and will return on 12th Jan. It was a trip which i encouraged her to go even though i really wanted her to stay. The reason is becos i want her to spend more time with her parents, esp her dad. So i think the whole trip was worth it becos she did spend a lot of time with them.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to afford the air tickets for her, and hence the reason she had to work in UK during this one month stay in UK to pay for her ticket and living expenses. Hon, i promise you in the future, you will get your tickets home.

When she comes back from UK, she will be helping me to work together and get our online biz to the next level. She has been really good during the past few months. Very patient with me, and my mood swings. Very understanding.

With her hardworking and determined traits, I believe we will be able to reach our goals very soon. I thank her for volunteering to help build our biz to the next level, and staying with me in Singapore, to help me with whatever I cannot do with the things on hand.

I really have no words to say what i want to mean. I love you my love.

So in case anyone out there thinks she is loafing around, or ask her to get a job, obviously, you do not know what she is doing and what she is producing when she says she is not doing much. Becos when she says she is not doing much, she is just being humble.

She has done enough to make this new website of ours flourish for many years to come. Income wise, she is building a residual income that will continue to bring in money year after year..

Well, you will not understand unless you can see the bigger picture. Long term.

Need i say more?

New Year’s Resolution: Continue To Be Happy!

Tuesday, January 1, 2008 by in General Blog Posts

Yip, that’s right…. My New Year’s Resolution is quite simply, continue to be happy!

How do I do it?

1) Count my blessings:
Take a few mins a day to just appreciate what is around me and be grateful… my family, friends… I’ve seen so many people who never seem happy! I mean, these days, people are more healthier, wealthier and live longer – so what on earth are they unhappy about?!?!? Ummmm

2) Be simple and don’t think of the meaningless things!!!:
In this day and age, we’re always pre-occupied with the hustle and bustle of life, that we get stressed out and neglect the more important things in life… We should take a step back and look at the bigger picture…. Why are we rushing? Why are we complaining? We often complain about what we don’t have and forget about what we DO have… Life used to be simple when we were kids, when we had the basics…. I still remember when mum couldn’t drive and she would take us to school…how? by riding her bicycle on the pavement with my youngest sister on the bike and the rest of us sisters running behind her!!! It was so fun! We should be simple…. in our minds and materials…. cos then we wouldn’t keep complaining!!! Take pleasure in the simple tasks.

3) Exercise more:
To increase happy endorphins and to stay healthy

4) Set realistic goals:
This is much better than setting them too high and not achieving it, or not setting any goals at all!

5) Admit mistakes:
Nobody is perfect. Life is far too complicated and stressful when you have to be the “best”, be “perfect”, be “always right” and worry about losing face. So don’t be to hard on yourself and others.

6) Don’t try too hard for happiness:
Like love – if its meant to be, it will be!
