Something Totally Random & Unexpected!

Friday, November 30, 2007 by Daisy in General Blog Posts

Something totally random and unexpected happened today!

Whilst shopping Huppy suddenly asked me whether I wanted to go back to UK for Christmas…. Originally it was decided that I would spend Christmas here in Singa…. So the question he asked me was an absolute shock…

Ofcos I would love to go but is there a reason why he wouldn’t want to spend C’mas with me?! (As Huppy wouldn’t be able to go due to committments here in Singa)

After talking it over with him and understanding why he said what he said - we both decided it would be good for me to go homes for Christmas…. I quick time tried to get some jobs, I mean all these holiday trips and spending - when I’m not even earning is very bad for my wallet!!! Thanks to my fren Jayne who managed to find some bookings for me to help cover my flight costs!

I’m on my way home for Christmas!!! Yippee… Can’t wait to catch up with everyone, set up another Christmas tree and spend quality time with everyone…

Thanks Huppy for being so understanding - loves ya xxx

Ants And Diabetes….

Recently, my Huppy asked me whether we should both check our blood glucose levels and I was like “Where did that come from?! A bit random!”

He had found an ant or some ants (not too sure whether it was singular or plural) around the squat toilet in the wetroom…. And he proceeded to tell me a story about his friend’s dad…

One night the family came home to find lots of ants around the squat toilet because the ants were attracted to the sugar in the urine….! To cut the story short - the Dad was diagnosed with diabetes!

At first, my instinct was to think - Yuck… whose been leaking and not aiming correctly and gross - all those germs!!!! Let’s wash the toilets…. And then, I was like, “Are you sure? Really?” I suppose, it makes sense… If you have sugar in your urine - it should attract ants! So I was really impressed and decided to google it!

I found that the ancient Indians tested for diabetes by observing whether ants were attracted to a person’s urine, and called the ailment “sweet urine disease” (Madhumeha)… Ancient Hindu writings, many thousands of years old, also document how black ants and flies were attracted to the urine of diabetics…. And there’s more information! Wow… back to the old days!

Well, thought I would share this interesting info with you!!! Another thing is - remember to clean your toilet too!!!

This lunchtime, we met up with the relatives of Mama’s side. We went to Turf City to have dim sum, but only ended up ordering one dish of dim sum!!! We had a sumptious 8 course meal…. Lobster salad, abalone & chinese mushroom, shark’s fin soup, garoupa, dessert…. Wow… Talk about a light lunch!

Check out that lobster!!

Then it was off to meet up with Andy, Monica, Kristy, Wen Hao and Derrick for our picnic! Originally we were meant to meet at Marine Parade - but due to renovations, we changed location to East Coast Park.

We ate, chatted, and played UNO…. 3 Girls Vs 4 Guys…. and guess what?!?!? Yip the THREE girls won!!! 4:3!!! Bring it on! Go girls!!! So much laughing that my voice box was hurting! Then as the weather got darker and it started raining, we went to Suntec City to eat our apple strudel dessert and watch a film… “The Kingdom”…. Not that brilliant!

Then we went to Newton to finish off our sandwiches, sushi, green tea, chicken nuggets etc, whilst ordering other foods so that we could eat in the food court, and not get thrown out!!! Another fab day! So stuffed I cant sleep!!! Oops!!!

Yay - girls win!

Raffles Hotel Empire Cafe Lunch!

Saturday, November 24, 2007 by Daisy in General Blog Posts, Really Nice Food

Yesterday, some frens introduced me to the Singapore Raffles Hotel’s Empire Cafe… It’s styled like a typical 1920s Singapore coffee house, and serves up both international staples and local favourites.

So today, I thought it would be nice for Huppy and Mama to have a try and tell me whether its up to scratch!!! And whether it’s worth every single dollar!!!

I was told that the Laksa and Hokkien Mee was famous and tasty at the Empire Cafe… I wouldn’t really know as I don’t really eat them! But at a price of at least S$18 (compared to the local tasty hawker centre selling at S$4 max)- it better be tasty!! The previous day I had Wonton mee and I quite enjoyed that!

We ordered a few dishes… Laksa, Wonton mee, Chicken rice…. Mama and Huppy thought the Laksa was quite good… The drinks were home-made with the real ingredients… But whether its worth the amount of money is questionable! But we managed to eat it all!!!

Hey, in my opinion its good enough! How else would rich posh people be able to eat the local delights and feel comfortable? But nothing beats the real m’coy in the hawker centres!!! :)

Us three

Singa Discovery Centre & Army

Tuesday, November 20, 2007 by Daisy in General Blog Posts

Today, we decided to goto the Singapore Discovery Centre and Singapore Army Museum…. I suppose, any excuse for a day out!

The Singapore Army Museum was quite interesting but the Sg Discovery Centre, in my opinion was not that good…. Manged to squeeze in a 3D shark show and 2D Everest show, both lasting about 45mins each… They were quite interesting! However, after watching the 3D show - felt a bit queasy… Too 3D for me, if there’s such a thing!?

Jingle Bells!!!

Sunday, November 18, 2007 by Daisy in General Blog Posts

Arriving back in Singa and seeing all those sparkly lights and decorations gave me extreme motivation to wanna set up C’mas decorations early at home…. So Huppy and I went late night shopping last night… Rounded up all the goodies and voila… time to decorate!

Didnt manage to set it up last night as was FAR TOO EXHAUSTED! But this morning I was refreshed…. It’s not exactly a huge tree but a 5ft tree will just have to do for the meantime! Loving the sparkles….

Will have to organise a function sometime soon!

I love it when the fairy lights sparkle!!!

HK Trip 10th - 16th Nov….

As per usual - was too busy to write during my stay, as so many people to see and so little time!! So here’s some highlights of the weeks’ events!

The moment I landed in HK, I already had an appointment.. dinner with my Mum’s side… Unfortunately, I was delayed for 1hr - so that meant they had to wait for me to have dinner… Rushing to the venue - I was so hot and sweaty!!! (We had dinner at 9:30pm! Oops!!)
Mum's side of family...

I couldn’t sleep that night, as I wasn’t used to the hardness of my sister’s bed and flatness of the pillow! After tossing and turning and managing to find something to prop my pillow up, I fell asleep due to extreme exhaustion! The follow morning, I decided to venture out as I had to meet my Mum’s side relatives… Such beautiful weather.. sunny but with a cool breeze… Such great scenery…

The block of flats where my sister lives!!! We're on top of the world!!!

After giving respects to “Por-por” and “Gong-gong”, it was then dim sum time…. Last night’s food hadn’t even digested!! But hey, any excuse for more food eh!!
Me and my cousin Kristy (aka Tung Tung)

Then back to the house to see the new arrival - Jason.. so Cute!

After that, it was time to meet Dad’s side relatives… Went to Gran’s house, chatted and had dinner at a restaurant close by.. so much yummy food!!!Yummy yummy food... Maybe I should think about being a food critic!?!??!

Monday 12th… Grandma’s B’day!!!! Happy Birthday!!! Celebrated all day with Grandma…. More food!!! Stayed the night at Gran’s….

*Hugs & Kisses*
Group pic

The following day, Auntie Concepta had 2 tickets to watch a live concert that evening… Wow - never been to one in HK… So ofcos, I took the opportunity! Met up with my sis Alice and Auntie Concepta for early dinner - Sushi (Another yummy event - my fav!!)… Then at 7pm it was off to meet Auntie Kennese for the concert…. Not really my type of music - but at least its an experience! Tickets to see Sandy Lam (Lam Yik lin)

Tickets to see Sandy Lam

Wed was meeting up with Susan… She’s a fren from UK who was visiting HK to see Aaron Kwok in concert.. Now that’s WOW!!! He’s so pwoar!!!! Chilled out and chatted…. This pic is so funny…. I think the flash scared her abit!!! hehe

*Flash!* Dont be scared!!!!

Then at 7pm… more food…. met up with mum’s relatives.

Thurs was celebrating Auntie Giustina’s birthday (left of pic) at this really fab restaurant at Hotel Nicoll… French cuisine - buffet style… Yay - there’s sushi!!!
Happy Hippy Bday!

Then it was meeting up with Susan again and popping over to a gallery to shop for some trendy embroidery paintings.. They are so fab…. the pictures on their website dont give it much credit - these are a must see in real life… The gallery is called “Art Nice Gallery“.

Fri is the day to leave… I’ll be back!!!

I’m sure the statement above has gone through your mind before… Am I right? No doubt you would have come up with some excuse to hide the fact that you have simply taken too much!

I mean, C’mon, you need the small red leather shoulder bag to match your red tank top… And the black clutch bag - cos the colour’s universal… And not forgetting all your favourite tops - how can you possibly be seen wearing the same top or the same colours for 2 days in a row?! Ridiculous - right?! Hey, not forgetting accessories - Oh, they are a must…. My outfits would simply look too plain without them!

If the weather is good - sandals would be great, a few summery tops and bottoms… But what if it rains? So I better bring my closed-toe shoes, my cardigan, warmish clothes… Make-up, toiletries…. Yip, been there, done that! Problem is you can’t close your suitcase!

So how do you solve the problem? You go through each piece of clothing, each accessory, each pair of shoes, each hand bag and so on… and you filter in your brain whether it will match your outfits, your desired style, will you wear them and do you really need it.. And what happens at the end? You manage to remove maybe one piece of item.. Why? Cos you NEED everything that you packed!!! Like me, most of you will probably not wear or use everything that you bring in your suitcase! But we do it because “Just in case”!! I mean, who knows what happens on holiday, whether it will be warm or cold, whether you will suddenly be invited to some trendy club or party, how you will feel and what you want to wear on a particular day?

I feel so much better now that I know why I packed so much! Because it’s “Just in case!” :)

Another problem… Big heavy suitcase, but Huppy not travelling with me! Ummm….
Regardless - I need everything in the suitcase!

46 Days To Go!!!! Yay!!

Thursday, November 8, 2007 by Daisy in General Blog Posts

With 46 days to go until Christmas - I can’t wait to start buying a Christmas tree and set it all up! Shiny and sparkly lights with really cute and pretty decorations! And oh yeah, food…. I wonder what the food will be like here? I doubt it’ll be like UK styles - a big whopper roast dinner which the left-overs last for about a week! And what about presents?!?!? Will there be lots under the tree?

Well, counting down the days… Don’t know what to expect - but I’m sure it’ll be fun and we’ll be partying somewhere in town? Will start looking and buying after my return from HK…
