Or in my case, the lack of it!
Why is it so difficult in this side of the world to buy a decent pair of shoes… Note – not sandals, but closed toe, comfy, trendy pair of shoes, in the correct size?!?!?! I believe that shoes must be comfortable – as your feet are extremely impt – you stand up all day on them, they support your body posture…. If your feet hurt – then it affects your whole body and emotions….
Here in Singa – I own a lot of sandals, all different types and styles…
However, recently, I have started looking for some flat trendy comfy closed-toe shoes, with a level of waterproof characteristics.. Not too fussed but like pump shoes? Or court shoes etc….
I love shoes, actually boots! The amount I have in UK is appauling as I often have to give them to charity shops due to the amount of stock!… I also never used to own that many sandals as the weather never warranted the existance, but as I am living here in this hot climate – I found my styles shifting from waterproof, closed-toe shoes/boots to sandals….
For some unknown reason, I never brought any closed-toe flat shoes with me and all of a sudden I wanted to own a pair of this type of shoes… so off I went searching for the perfect pair!
I went to a few shops and realised something… There are not enough designs, styles, comfy closed-toe flat shoes! And not just that… the sizes generally stop at 38 – 39 European size!!! I am a size 6 – 6.5 in UK, and have slighter wider feet than average, depending on the style of shoe!
Listen to this! I went into a Scholl shop (one of my fav brands in UK as they cater for wider feet!) and asked whether they had this particular shoe in a size 39 or 40…
Shop assistant: “Are you buying for your mum?”
I was like: “No, actually, it’s for myself!!!”
Shop assistant: “Sorry, the largest size we stock is 38 in this style.”
Me: “Do you have any closed toe flat shoes in a size 40?
Shop assistant: “Sorry, the largest size we stock in ALL our styles is 38! But we have sandals in larger sizes!”
So, for the next few days I didn’t even bother looking for the styles of shoes etc… I would just go into the shoe store and say “What closed-toe flat shoes do you have in a size 40?”!!! Crazy right?!!?!?! Totally in my opinion! I have never had this problem EVER in UK!!!
Well, there wasnt much choice.. but I did manage to find a pair in Charles and Keith….
Not sure if its comfy long-term though!!! Well, for the time being until I go HK!!!
For the shoe designers out there – how about designing some shoes to cater for those with larger, wider feet?!?!?!
