Beating the Singaporeans by a margin, at their own game!!! Oops!! :)

Sunday, September 23, 2007 by Daisy in General Blog Posts

Today, it was playing mah jong with Mama, Allan and his friend Yew Sun… In UK I normally play the HK-style of mah jong and here in Singa, they have their own style - the singapore-style mah jong… Different rules, different tiles, different scoring system!

4 players all competing for the name..... Master of Mah Jong!!!!

I’ve played the singapore style only 3 times before and I found it VERY difficult to adjust my brain and playing technique after so many years of playing the HK style… and this time I was particularly worried! Why? Because Yew Sun and Mama are meant to be fantastico!!!

Well, for some unknown reason, today I found it extremely easy to adjust my brain and technique and the good tiles just kept rolling in!!! So winning some rounds with maximum points, I felt extremely pleased!!! So after 32 rounds, I was the overall winner! Mama also winning a little! Yay the females!!! But I think I was only lucky today - beginners luck!!! So for all those out there who want to compete with me… Seriously, I’m only a beginner!!!

Today, we went to have a look at bedroom furniture… and we’re gonna have a whole new bedroom furniture set! Yippee… So excited… The colours are gonna be sort of like dark chocolate brown.. and we’re keep the room clutter-free (as much as we can!!)

Im still in two minds whether to paint the walls a magnolia colour or keep it to what it is now (a brilliant white colour), or should I paint some trendy patterns?!?!? Ummm… Then how will I decorate the room? With a canvas picture? some flowers? some ornaments? How excited I am!!

Now the most headache thing is getting rid of the old wardrobe and double bed and frame… Until we can - we wont be getting the new set… I know, Im gonna try and sell it… anyone looking for bedroom furniture?!?!?!

Also today, I had a pleasant surprise…. A big parcel… I missed the postman, so today I had to collect it from the depot… Carried the box home to unravel a duvet set… Especially made by my sister Sissie for our wedding gift…. I was told it took her ages!!! So fab! Check it out…

Fantastico!!! Handmade by my sis!

Today, also, Huppy and I went to buy my favourite house plant - a money tree!!! Hope it brings me more money!!! hehe

My money tree... let's watch it grow!!!

Then it was off to the library to borrow some rescue books…. “Wok cooking” and “Classic Asian cooking”!!! Hope this will tickle their tastebuds… Umm…. maybe I’ll start cooking soon?!?!? Hey atleast I’ve taken the first step in getting some recipes…. Now it’s getting the courage to goto the market and speak the lingo! Once the dishes are sorted, its learning to cook soup time!!! A long way to go yet!

Rescue books!!!

Congrats to Maggie & Daniel

Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Recruiting Volunteers

Friday, September 14, 2007 by Daisy in General Blog Posts

I read this from the Singapore Government website and I was really interested in joining!!!

Olympics!!

How cool eh! Not sure what I could do but Im sure they’ll find me a role…
Some of the services required include:
· Protocol and reception
· Transport
· Spectator guiding
· Articles’ distribution
· Communication
· Venue operations support
· Cultural activity support

Specialised volunteers in the following areas are also needed:
-VIP escort and translation
-Vehicle driving
-Media operation
-Sport organisation
-Medical service—————————Hey, maybe I could be of service here!?!?
-Awarding ceremony
-Reception and accommodation
-Security

However, reading on…. “Applicants whose first language is not Mandarin should be able to engage in conversational Mandarin…”————– Shame!!! Maybe I’ll have to be a volunteer in the London Olympics…. Hey, those who find out more first and wanna participate - remember to inform me!!!

Today, we woke up early to meet Grandma for dim sum in Diamond Hill… We don’t often get to see her as we live so far - so it was nice to catch up and listen to stories…

DnA and Grandma after Dim Sum

Then later on in the evening we met up with other relatives to eat at a “Dai Pai Dong“…. Fantastic food, fantastic environment…

Dai Pai Dong
Tucking into good food!

Then after food Huppy went with Uncle Fai to see a Mah Jong Club!!! Us women didnt go in.. Huppy said it was just like the ones in triad films - smokey, swearing, but without the triads!!!

Eating again!?

After chilling out and trying the local delights we met up with relatives to eat…. Oops - food was so yummy, we forgot to take pics!!!

Out and About…

Thursday, September 6, 2007 by Daisy in General Blog Posts, Holiday

To travel out of DB there are 2 options… Bus or ferry… With my travel sickness wrist bands on and my motion sickness tablets ready in my bag - we took the ferry…

Still managing to squeeze a smile amongst the nausea!!!

To Huppy’s surprise, the ferry is from Singa!!! He’s so lovin’ it!!! Made in Singa!!

We met up with some Aunts for dim sum at Mong Kwok then after that it was DnA roaming the streets time! Huppy managed to squeeze in some “smelly tofu” at a side street stall… Serious! It smells of vomit!!! And some gross pigs intestines/guts/blood!!! Ergh!!! He loved it!!! Oh so smelly!!!

Roaming da streets!

Is it really that tasty?!?!It stinks!

Highlights of the day included travelling along the longest escalator in the world!!!
When will we get there?!?!?
Half way there, we decided to stop off at a doughnut shop… SO MANY TO CHOOSE from!!! But had to control myself, not that Im a doughnut fan!!! I think it was cos I was tired from the standing on the escalator!!
So colourful!

Other highlights included going to Lan Kwai Fong, travelling on a tram, taking a well deserved 30 min sitting break on a sofa in a trendy shop!! C’mon, you gotta try before you buy, right!?!?! Check out some of my trendy shots and check out the amount of people in the middle of the afternoon…. You feel as though youre lost in the crowd!

Check these out… Movie of DnA by DnA!!!
