We’ve booked our honeymoon!!!

Sunday, July 29, 2007 by Daisy in Daisy's Thoughts, General Blog Posts, Holiday

Today, Huppy and I decided to book our honeymoon… After discussing when would be the best time - the month of October was it!

*August - I return home to UK for 1 month.
*September - I will be going to HK for about 9 days, then returning to Singa for Maggie and Daniel’s wedding.

For our honeymoon we are going to Koh Samui in Thailand… 8 day trip staying in a beautiful hotel then a villa (well, it looks fantastic in the pictures on the internet!!!) - to experience the differences in areas and traditions etc.

The first 3 days we will be staying at a hotel at Bophut beach - it’s a small paradise in the north of Koh Samui in between Maenam and Chaweng. It’s houses are said to be built in the pure Thai style, out of tropical wood, which gives it the charm. There are small restaurants at the edge of the sea which provides tranquility and a taste of local Thai food.

Then for the remainder 5 days, we will be staying at a villa at Chaweng beach - A 7 km long beach in the North-East of Samui. The most well-known and developed, but also one of the best!! We’ll see how it compares!!!

Really looking forward to it, esp. some of the stuff we plan to do! E.g. the spa treatments, going to a kick boxing event, shoot at a shooting range (well, I may chicken out!!??), The big Buddha, the grandfather and grandmother rocks located on South Lamai beach, nightlife and bars…. Basically, chilling out and spending some quality time with my Huppy…

It’s 11:45pm.
Everyone is asleep.
Hupps is playing pool with his friend.
I chose not to go.
I’m on the computer.
I’m listening to a song sung by Kermit the frog called Rainbow Connection…
“Why are there so many songs about rainbows and what’s on the other side?”
I’m surfing the net.
I’m reading blogs.
I’m reading emails.
I’m looking at pictures - wedding pictures, graduation pictures, new pictures, old pictures.
I notice things that I never noticed before - words, pictures, colours, patterns, details.
I begin to realise that I never really took much notice.
So many people and things that I have neglected and taken for granted.
I begin to realise what’s important in my life…..

Things have happened and they happen for a reason…. And the fact that I am here reflecting and realising is a great thing….

Like one of my sisters once told me:

“The love of a family is life’s greatest blessing” and I totally agree… Loving you and missing you all… Mwah

My first cooking as a Tai-Tai!!

Thursday, July 26, 2007 by Daisy in General Blog Posts

For those who know me - I don’t cook… actually, I don’t want to cook…. Not because I don’t like it… It’s because I have no time and my cooking is basically crap… I generally don’t have any idea of taste nor do I like to think about what dishes to cook.. I find it so mind-boggling to think of different dishes every single day! I’m perfectly happy eating the same dish at every meal… C’mon, I love bland foods!!! and I don’t really like msg… (monosodium glutamate, that is!!)

But today, I have no excuse! I have plenty of time! So today is officially my first cooking day as a Tai-Tai (a house-wife!).

I woke up early with Hupps, to take Maggie to school (7am)…. She teaches and the schools here start at 7:30am…. crazy!!! Then it was off to the wet market to buy the ingredients…. Came back home to take a short nap but ended up waking at 10:45am!!! :)

The dishes I “plan” to cook are below…. Usually, due to errors - a little improvisation is needed!

Dish 1: Steamed whole fish with ginger and spring onion
Dish 2: Stir fried chicken and onions in soya sauce
Dish 3: Pak choi with garlic
Dish 4: Steamed egg sprinkled with spring onions

Result:
Dish 1: Mum added fermented soya bean sauce for taste… I managed to crack the plasticy plate due to the immense heat!!!! oops!!! :p
Dish 2: Turned out the best…!!! Tasted good!
Dish 3: Over-cooked the veggie - but hey, still ok.
Dish 4: Added too much water into the egg… Also forgetting that water will also go into the dish due to condensation (I steamed the beaten egg in the rice cooker)…. Turned out watery….

Wow, what a feast!!!

Final verdict:
All the dishes were finished!!! Couldn’t have been that bad! Maybe I’ll cook curry tomorrow?!?!?

*** The soups in the picture were cooked by Mum….!***

Today, Mum and DnA went to see a chinese practitioner… We went because Mum had a bad back and Huppy was being treated for hand pain…. This chinese practitioner is a very good chiropracter - how do we know? Cos Mum has been there before…

….. Mum’s turn…. *Massage*….. Looked painful cos the chiro was at times, massaging by using her elbow!!! But mum took the pain! Then the chiro reccomended Gua Sha cos she could see that there was a lot of heat in the body…. *Mum stated it was really painful whilst it was happening but said it provided relief*…. Session over…

…. Huppy’s turn…… He was really intrigued by this Gua Sha - so he too wanted a go!!! Actually, I did too!! But the chiro wouldnt do it on me cos I was suffering from gastric flu…. Lucky actually, cos looking at the after effects - it looked painful! Anyhow, lucky I didnt do it cos I have sensitive skin - which I forgot about due to the excitment!

Qn: So what is Gua Sha? (To read more, click on the this link Gua Sha)

Gua Sha is a healing technique used in Asia by practitioners of Traditional Medicine, in both the clinical setting and in homes, but little known in the West. It involves palpation and cutaneous stimulation where the skin is pressured, in strokes, by a round-edged instrument; that results in the appearance of small red petechiae called ’sha’, that will fade in 2 to 3 days.

Raising Sha removes blood stagnation considered pathogenic, promoting normal circulation and metabolic processes. The patient experiences immediate relief from pain, stiffness, fever, chill, cough, nausea, and so on. Gua Sha is valuable in the prevention and treatment of acute infectious illness, upper respiratory and digestive problems, and many other acute or chronic disorders.

Well, here is a picture of Hupps after the session…. Apparently, according to the chiro, he’s got lots of toxins…. compared to his mum’s back - Huppy’s back was more blue/purple!!!

Huppy's back after Gua Sha!!! WOW!!

****Review 2 days later: Huppy’s back is MUCH better…. the blue/purple marks have subsided leaving a brown dirty mark….. like sunburn!!! Will he have more done? He says yes!!!

Travelling back to Singa

Thursday, July 5, 2007 by Daisy in General Blog Posts

What a mission!!! Due to the high security of UK airports and wild weather conditions, the flight from Cardiff was delayed… which meant we missed our connecting flight to Singa!!!

We eventually caught the cardiff flight to amsterdam…. We managed to get a transfer, the earliest being the following evening, but flying from amsterdam to bankok, then to singa…!!

Finding a hotel was a mission that evening, but managed to find somewhere close by…

Due to the evening flight…. we had a tour in amsterdam…. visiting the windmills and general sightseeing…

DnA

Windmills

Clog Clogs!!! So so many!

Daze & Maggs on an Amsterdam train!

Dad and Mum on an Amsterdam train - what's so funny Mum?!?!?

Time for our flight…. arrived in bankok only to find that our luggage may not be on the same flight!!! But after some queries, we were assured that the luggage was on the same flight to singa… yippee….

At Bankok Airport on the way back to Singa... Yippee

Arrived back in Singa a day later than originally planned…. luggage all here? Oh no, one piece missing… Thank goodness it wasnt the luggages with our wedding gear! All ended well as the missing luggae was found and returned the following day! (it was lost in transit in bankok!!)
