Curettage & Huppy

For those who noticed, Huppy had a little round growth on his left upperside hand. It originally started as a pimple, then Huppy picked it… and picked it more and carried on picking it!!!

Until it formed its own blood supply and in my opinion, developed into somthing like a wart. This wanna-be wart become a rough, raised lump and when you looked closely, you could also see tiny black dots in the wart; these are blood capillaries feeding it!!!

Well, I treated it homestyles in all sorts! Such as salicylic acid to burn it off, cryotherapy to freeze it off and caustic pen containing silver nitrate, which made the tissue go black!! We continued these treatments for over 6 months and when we thought the wanna-be wart was subsiding it would grow back in avengence! So we decided to take a trip to the GPs.

GP had a look, told us he didnt know what it was and booked Huppy in for a minor operation called a Curettage – and would send the wanna-be wart for examination… Sounds scary! We were only expecting something to apply – not have a surgical procedure!

Curettage is basically the surgical removal (scraping or cutting) of wart tissue using a scalpel or a small, sharp, spoon-shaped tool. Its meant to be painful and can cause scarring and usually requires local anesthetic.

I was working when Huppy had his curettage and during the afternoon, I had a phonecall… What Huppy told me was unpleasant! I told him to explain when I got home!

Basically, the GP couldn’t scrape off the wart with the spoon-shaped tool, so ended up using a scalpel! He not only took out the wart (which was sent away for diagnosis) – he also took out most of his skin!!! It looked gross when Huppy took off his dressing!!! It ressembled an impact crater and was black, like gangrene! Apparenly, the blood would not stop so they had to use silver nitrate to seal the blood vessels (now, for those who have ever experienced silver nitrate on an open wound – that kills!) – thank goodness Huppy had a local anaesthetic!

Impact crater!

Slip of scalpel?!?!?! See the line mark? That was a cut...! ummm, was the GP nervous?!?!?
